E.R. Roberts Business & Civic Award
Since 1989, the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce has proudly presented the E.R. Roberts Business & Civic Award to honor individuals who embody the principles of integrity, hard work, and community dedication.
E.R. Roberts opened his clothing store in downtown Hartselle in 1921 at just 20 years old. For 69 years, he built a business founded on honesty, fairness, and an unwavering commitment to civic pride. His reputation was legendary—so much so that when he once overcharged a customer by just 17 cents, he spent nearly two hours tracking them down to return it. He was a beloved businessman, not just for his success, but for the way he invested in the people of Hartselle. His legacy continues to shape our business community today.
This prestigious award recognizes an individual who follows in his footsteps—someone who not only excels in business but also gives back selflessly, making Hartselle a better place to live, work, and thrive.
Ideal recipient demonstrates:
✔ Honesty in all business and community dealings
✔ A strong work ethic and dedication to their craft
✔ A deep commitment to civic engagement
✔ Fair and ethical treatment of others
✔ Active participation in the community, their church, and Chamber initiatives
Through this award, we honor those who, like E.R. Roberts, understand that true success is measured not by what you gain, but by what you give back.
